Storing Files in iCloud only

To ensure I maximize disk space on my Mac Book, I want to hold documents in the cloud rather than on the hard drive, i know that if use iCloud drive then this will mean the documents are held twice, once in the cloud and once on the Mac.

What is the best solution, I do not really want to think about using Dropbox etc, just iCloud if possible.
