recovering alias file after reimage a macbook

Hi everyone,

Here my situation.

Last week I reimaged a macbook pro. I work for a school district so we do not use time machine. So I backed up every file that I needed before the reimage the exact same way. After the reimage was completed I stored the files into their correct location. Everything seemed to have worked just fine until I clicked on my desktop files. A pop up box came up and said "The alias can't be located." So I clicked on the fix alias button and then that said it couldn't find the files location. I checked all my other files and they are all opening correctly. It was just the files on my desktop screen that are all reading as alias.

My question is their a way to recover my original desktop files after the computer has been reimage?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
