How does one keep the stickies organized once the computer is shut down and rebooted?

I am using MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite. I use stickies on my desktop and have them arranged to my liking. When I shut down my computer (weather related) and then turn back on my stickies appear in a diagonal fashion across the desktop with no previous arrangement. I don't know what is causing this nor do I know how to correct it. I have never had this problem before, only since purchasing this computer and upgrading to Yosemite.
