My screen locked up to Itunes plug in after trying to update to ios8

After trying to update from IOS 7 I received a message screen to say ITunes could not see my device. The message also told me to restore and upgrade but it won't accept this and I can't get to the screen to restore to factory setting and back up. The ipad screen has the usb lead and iTunes logo on it all the time an d when I shut down and reboot it come back to that. Any suggestions please.

iPad, iOS 7.1.2

It sounds like you have restored the iPad as the screen is telling you, but something happened in the restore process and it did not complete properly. I would take a look at this article about resolving issues with a restore named:
