24" Cinema Display has died - replacement?

My 24" Cinema Display seems to have died on me (screen just went black during use).

The current 27" version seems well overdue for an update (usb2 only) and overpriced - what are my best options for a reasonably priced 27" plus replacement for use with my MacBookPro 13" and without using all/most of the (limited) output ports on the MBP?

I currently use the Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad.

I need a good quality display for photographic use, but on a limited budget!
