why do some of my contacts capitalize on their own

On what Mac or mobile device, with what operating system?

The first and last name fields autocapitalize on the iPhone.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

When I enter a contact, say "John Smith", after saving, a few minutes later, it becomes "JOHN SMITH"

This is only happening to a few contacts, not all of them. I cannot figure out what is different about them. I am syncing to Exchange Contacts, but the contact in Exchange is not all capitals.
