Q: Mid 2010 MacBook Pro Constant Black Screen

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that blackscreens several times a day. This has been going on for a while. Apparently there was a program to remedy this situation, but that program has ended. I received no notification from Apple about this program which is why I was unable to enter it. Program info: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) intermittent black screen or loss of video Quality Program has ended - Apple Support

The crash report always cites the gpu as the problem. I understand that we could shut off the automatic switching option under the energy saver, but this greatly reduces battery power and turns my laptop into a desktop which is useless to me. Any suggestions other than spending another $2500 on a computer? Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

The automatic switching feature just allows the MBP to run all the time on the discrete GPU.  That is the problem.  Download this application:

This will allow you to disengage the discrete GPU and run on the only the integrated one.  This should eliminate the kernel panics but at the expense of graphics performance.

The solution is a replacement of the logic board.

    Ciao.
