Q: How to cancel photos from uploading to my mac?

I have always backed up photos from my iphone, my roommates iphone and her ipad to a NAS backup drive until now.  This new photos app on my mac is not user friendly at all and I am very frustrated.  I had connected the ipad to do a backup of the photos and I accidentally hit import all new photos (before I realized that it was not allowing me to choose where these photos were going to be copied to) and now I have over 1600 photos attempting to load onto my iphone and everything thing else I do not want them to be on.

I have turned it off for now to stop this until I can find out how to cancel this upload.  So I would like to find out the following:

1) how to permanently cancel these photos from uploading to everything I don't want them to be on

2) how do I get photos from the ipad to the NAS?

I hope I have explained this correctly, the previous version was so easy to use, this new version is useless to me right now.

Ok,  I remembered that it was image capture I was using to transfer photos to the NAS, why that was not opening up - I don't know.  But still need to keep the 1600 photos from going to all my devices.

Review your Preferences in Photos and/or set Image Capture to launch when you connect your iPhone.

If you prefer, iPhoto and iPhoto Library remain on your drive and work as before, although you might need to update iPhotos.

How to get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X10.10.3.

That suggests that the iCloud preferences on your Photos app on your Mac are set to use one or both of the iCloud services, "iCloud Photo Library" or "My Photo Stream." So the first thing to do is open Photos without any of the iDevices connected to it & turn those services off. (I am assuming neither service is enabled on any of the iDevices. If that isn't correct, make sure you have backups of all your photos before doing anything else.)
