Have I Been Hacked?

Macbook Air OS Yosemite 10.10.3 256 GB-downloaded some movies from iCloud on June 1 and almost ran out of free space. Afterwards Keychain said I needed to log in from another device and I then lost all of my passwords. Keychain Library was corrupted and had to restore. Now all of my autofill data has been wiped out. I had a virus previously that installed a new search engine I could never get to go away, seems to be gone after recent updates though. I have had some phishing attempts come through my phone lately. Have I had a hack? Can I restore autofill?

Problem description:

Downloaded movies from iCloud and almost ran out of free space. Afterwards I lost all of my keychain passwords and keys and I found a corrupt folder in the Keychain library. I removed the corrupted folder and did a reboot. Keychain replaced the folder but no data was restored. I found some old backups of my keychain but nothing that I needed. I ended up resetting keychain and starting anew. I then lost all of my autofill data including my credit card information (probably dumb to use this feature I know) and I couldn’t figure out how to retrieve it. Now my email repeatedly asks me to log in even though I have enabled all of my accounts. I received a phishing text message while working on my keychain repair. Also, I had adware at one point that went away, came back and is gone again I think. This afternoon my iPhone began to have problems with the display and touch screen and I had to reboot. Now it wants me to log in to iCloud at random times. Also, my iPad battery died and it won’t charge. The charge screen shows it is connected but flashes periodically and does not charge. I do not know if these are all connected. My main problem is the lost information on my macbook air (10.10.3) and a concern that I may have a virus.

1) It's not a virus. From the symptoms you describe, it's adware. Based on the EtreCheck report you posted, it's still on your computer (Genieo and Omnibar adware). It is possible, though I can't say for certain, that it is responsible for your AutoFill problem as well. You should remove it, and while you're at it, remove the worthless Symantec "Norton" product. Anti-virus is useless at protecting you from adware (or even general malware for that matter), and Norton for Mac in particular has a poor reputation.

2) Download and run a scan with AdwareMedic: http://adwaremedic.com/index.php.

The best way to remove adware is often the subject of heated debates on these forums. If you feel comfortable running a program, prefer a quicker solution, and don’t want to risk incompletely or incorrectly removing the adware manually, then you should run AdwareMedic as I suggested. If you would rather remove the adware manually because you don’t want to run any programs to solve the problem, then follow Apple’s instructions at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987. Note that this document does not cover all types of adware. If those instructions do not solve the problem, see http://thesafemac.com/arg (from the same author as AdwareMedic).

You will probably hear others’ opinions about whether you should run a program or remove the adware manually. AdwareMedic gets my vote, but don’t let that, or anyone else’s opinions sway you one way or the other.

Remove adware and Symantec software as suggested by stevejobsfan01234.

Mac is running out of storage space.

Go step by step and check.

1. Start up in Safe Mode.

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11212

2. Backup your computer.

3. Empty Trash.

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13806

4. Disk space / Time Machine / Local Snapshots

Local backups

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4878

5. Delete old iOS Devices Backup.

iTunes > Preferences > Devices

Highlight the old Backups , press “Delete Backup” and then “OK”.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

6. Re-index Macintosh HD.

This will take a while. Wait until it is finished.

System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409

7.Try OmniDiskSweeper. This will show the storage size details of the items.

https://www.omnigroup.com/more

Select Macintosh HD and click “Sweep Selected Drive” at the bottom.

Be careful. Delete only the files that can be safely deleted. If you are not sure about any file, don’t touch it.

8. Move iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie media folders to an external drive.
