dns not working on older clients

Hi - I'm living on borrowed time hear, and any thoughts ideas would be greatly appreciated


The problem

We have a very old ageing xServer that did dns dhcp vpn etc very well for a big number of years -

Runs DNS for all the outside world and we have had no problems using this and for our internal dns stuff as well


Problem - the machine is becoming unstable - will not start up some times - no Video some times etc etc... So I brought a mac mini and & I put Yosimite server on the thing and manually re configured everything (The original was a lion server!)


Anyway the old xServer machine would not start up this morning so I thought ok lets just get the new mac mini server running - this is where things go weird!


My machine (which is running 10.10 ) when configured my machine to run on / off the new Mac Mini worked fine - unfortunately all the other macs had huge problems with this - they could only find some pages, could not find local dns related assets nslookup commands from the older mac's to the new Mac Mini failed - but from my machine worked.


Any idea what the heck might be going on hear?

Did Try flushing the cache - Seem to be getting intermittent behaviour still
