mouse and keyboard won't connect after sleep

My apple bluetooth Mouse and keyboard won't connect after long periods of sleep. I can reconnect them by using a usb keyboard and mouse and deleting and adding them. The problem still exists after a long period of sleep. Any help is much appreciated.
