Why does my spellchecker keep changing back to US English?

Why does my spellchecker keep changing back to US English?

I'm based in Japan, where I bought my Macbook.

It was set to US English at first but I changed everything to UK English (at least I thought I did!) when I set it up but I can't seem to change the spellchecker.

I have the Languages set at British English and the Default setting in the spellcheck set to UK English, but when I go to spell check it comes up as US English.

Does it have anything to do with having the region set as Japan?

I know it's not a big problem, but it is a bit annoying to have those red lines all over my perfectly precise prose!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

In each app, double check that the dictionary in Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar is also set to UK English.

Some apps, like MS Word do not use apple's settings at all, you need to check their own preferences and menus.

Hello Tom,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm using MS Word and I've got the spellings and grammar settings to UK English, it just seems to ignore the settings when it comes to the spellchecker....strange.
