I Have a Samsung TV and have had an Apple TV connected to it . Now when I go to use it all I get is the apple icon on the screen and the remote will not respond

You need to restore
Restore your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) - Apple Support
All I have is an apple icon on my TV screen. And the remote won't work
