Mac Mini HDMI to Display?

I want to attach a flat screen to a 2011 Mac Mini that I use however, the Firewire port is in use and I don't want to daisy chain. Thunderbolt is not an option for me.

Is it as straightforward as hooking up a display using the HDMI port on the Mini to an HDMI port on a display, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any advice is appreciated, as I am lacking confidence in my techie ability these days. Things change a tad too fast for me.😕
