Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad battery life

Is there any benefit to be had with respect to battery life by turning off the keyboard and trackpad when away from the computer for long periods of time, i.e. a day or weekend? I know they shut themselves down to a low level otherwise but I was curious if turning them off entirely would save them even more.
