I want to use my Samsung M3 2TB External Hard Drive to back up my MacBook Pro, and to copy/save/move files when plugged into a Mac/Windows PC files. Please help.

I want to use my Samsung M3 2TB External Hard Drive to back up my MacBook Pro. I have read that ExFat is the best to do this. I also want to use it to Copy/Save/Move files when plugged into a Mac/Windows PC.

I started by formatting the hard drive to ExFat, and backed up my Mac. Then I tried to copy files from a Windows PC, however the option was not available.

I then partitioned the device:

  • 1.8TB Exfat (for the backups); and
  • 200GB for the USB Storage

Now when I try to back up the device, the ExFat partition keeps wanting to erase and format it to Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive) Journaled.

What do I do?

Thank you in advance! 🙂

P.S.

I wasn't too sure what community to put this is. If it's in the wrong place please tell me where to go.
