iTunes isn't detecting my iPhone 4 but is detecting iPhone 5

This is only a recent problem as it was working just a few days ago however for some strange reason my iPhone 4 cannot be detected by iTunes. I have a macbook if this makes any difference? I have tried using different USB ports, different cables, restarting both devices etc. Is there anything else I should try?
