My iPhone 5 was completely dead out of battery. Now, when I put it on charge, it keeps flashing 'connect the charger' icon for a couple of seconds, goes off and then again reappears. This continues until its connected to power. What's wrong? Please help.

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on the phone.
Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings
