Frozen iPod classic

MY iPod classic stopped playing content, so I reset it using the suggested method of pressing the menu and the centre button simultaneously.

up came the apple logo...followed by a red circle with a red x in the middle and an apple support web address.

im going round in circles...can anyone help please?
