Q: Mac keeps failing to boot

Hey everyone, my Early 2011 17inch MBP keeps failing to boot and I'm at a loss to what the reason could be. I thought it may be the harddrive, but I really don't know.

I have a log of what's happpened if that helps:

Just run it, and here's the Copy/Paste:

NOTE: I recently had a new battery, hence the cycle count of 4. But the issue was apparent before the battery change.

Remove Sophos.  Though I have doubts. it may help.

Have you recently installed a new battery in your MBP?  If so, what is the source?  Apple or a third party?

    Ciao.

His is a Late 2008 15inch MBP, and the RAM isn't original, as its the same model RAM as mine, from Crucial Memory.

His MBP has had no problem with his RAM, or my RAM.

Okay I'll remove Sophos when I'm home. Any reasoning?

And the battery is third party, but is all the same specs as the original one, and as I mentioned, the problem was occurring with the original battery so I doubt it would be the battery.

Sophos does appear on the kernel panic report and really is not essential for your MBP.  I admit I am grasping at straws here but you never know.

I am mildly surprised that the RAM from your dad's MBP works in his since the specifications are not what is required for a 2008 MBP.

    Ciao.

You have the hardware fault covered by the extended warranty program. The logic board must be replaced. Anything else you do to try to solve the problem, especially anything that involves "etrecheck," is a complete waste of time.

Okay thank you. Would they still honour it even though my battery is 3rd party? I have the original battery still but the warranty sticker is no longer there.

    Cheers!

I don't know what they'll do. Regardless, the logic board has to go.

Okay thank you, I'll pop in to the Apple Store tomorrow after work and enquire.

    Thanks again.

Lind Davis' guess may very well prove to be correct but that will be verified by a test at the Apple store.  Bring a copy of the kernel panic report with you.

    Ciao.
