Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

How do I appropriate youtube videos for use in my fcpx project? I used to use an app called Tubesock but they appear to be out of business. Perhaps this is a bad sign?

Downloading videos from youtube is actually trivial to do nowadays, if they are available in an HTML5 version rather than Flash.

But it is one thing to download them for offline viewing, and another to incorporate into something that you may republish, so make sure that you are not violating any copyrights or whatnot.

That said: control-click, Download Video...

Hi Bill

Control click works with certain browsers and plug-ins.

Lots of apps out there. Both VLC and Handbrake can download files.

YouTube keeps changing some back-end programming, so older programs will no longer work.

I use the free app ClipGrab. http://clipgrab.org/

You should be aware that YouTube videos are compressed and the quality may not be very good. If possible get the original media files.

Sorry for your loss.

Hope this helps, Greg

... and then here is the "ss" trick .... no apps, no installer needed:

e.g. you like to download my lil' testvideo, with the URL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfR6fyeM2jo

then type/add in your browsers

https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=EfR6fyeM2jo

(bold/underscore just for highlighting, you add only ss )

This leads a diff. site, wait a moment, and you're offered a down-load link, just click, and the video is as a mp4 in your Downloads folder ...

Just as a reminder:

be nice to copyrights ... 😉
