In my Macbook Air iMovies, some menus in tool bar are not highlighted. For example, Join clips, content library & others? Please tell me why is this? Am I need to get pro version?

You need to make sure that you have created a new project. You can go to "All Projects" and then click on "new" and then you drag and drop your clips into the project and your tools should be highlighted again.
