I use my iPad every day and have done so for the past 4 years. Last night the screen went black, it will not turn on at all even after using the sleep/wake function buttons. The white apple logo appears and then nothing after that. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I should point out that this evening I logged into iTunes and tried to restore (although I didn't particularly want to try that option since it deletes anything that you have added/saved as I understand it) - that failed, iTunes was not able to restore the iPad.
You can try a hard rest, holds the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time and hold for 15 seconds.
What was the error in itunes?
I had the exact problem with my iPad about last year August, and after keeping it charged for the next two days, it eventually turned itself on and functioned perfectly fine for the past year.
Thanks - I have tried this a dozen times but nothing happens.
Can't recall the exact message but more or less "this iPad could not be restored".
