How do I set up a database?

I have a 2009 desktop Mac, with Yosemite 10.10.3 operating system.

I need to create a database of my husbands clothing in order to select items for his weekly visit to respite. currently I have to make a new list every week - so a database would make life easy.

But where do I start please?

Get a DB program or you can setup a basic flat database in any spreadsheet program such as Excel or Numbers. You can download the free Libre Office suite which contains a very sophisticated database component. Another option is iData 3.x. You can look for others at MacUpdate.
