Q: How do I transfer my iTunes library to a new computer

Hi guys.  I have an old 2006 iMac running OS Lion.  I have a new 2012 iMac running OS Yosemite.  I want to transfer the music iTunes library to my new computer.  I have some CD's that were uploaded to the computer, and organized playlists.  I followed the instructions from the web site How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support  However, this did not really help.  Even if the old files are on the new computer, iTunes does not seem to be able to find them.  I have none of the songs from the old computer listed anywhere in iTunes.  I need a bit of help.  How do I get iTunes to read the playlists and songs?

If you moved the entire iTunes library, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and choose it. Everything except for rented movies will be transferred and usable.

If you moved only the iTunes Media folder, drag the song files to the open iTunes application window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder. Doing this won’t transfer the playlists or other metadata.

Let me ask one more questions as I still seem to be having issues.  What is the best way to move files to the thumb drive.  I copied the iTunes folder from the old computer and put it on the new one.  However, when I am directed to select the library, only the "library.itl" file is selectable and it does not import the songs or p;playlists.

I wonder if I'm not doing something wrong in the copying process.

What happens if you go to iTunes/Preferences/Advanced and select Change, then point it to the iTunes folder?
