I tried to start up my new 13" MBP using my Yosemite time machine backup EDD. I made it to the login page, and it won't accept my password or my Apple password. Start over from scratch, or what? l my stuff is on the Yosemite, and I want to upgrade

I tried to start up my new 13" MBP using my Yosemite time machine backup EDD. I made it to the login page, and it won't accept my password or my Apple password. Start over from scratch, or what? l my stuff is on the Yosemite machine, and I want to upgrade this one as well. Will a Yosemite backup not restore Lion?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10)
