LG Monitor - Dual Smart Solution Problem

I'm having problems trying to set up a second monitor to my iMac (MB950 A1311). The LG monitor doesn't provide an image, it just has a pop up referencing dual smart solution. The dual smart solution is for PCs. I'm using a minidiplay port to DVI adapter. I've enabled a second monitor via the settings as a extended monitor. It appears Apple recognizes there is a monitor, as I'm able to move my mouse over in the area - just can't see an image. The LG monitor is a model: 27EA31V-B. Please tell me I can get this to work. I need the screen real estate for my home business. And I've already purchased the monitor. Thanks

I've gone into preferences and displays. It shows me two boxes one with a border on top. I've unclicked the mirror display. And move the the second box to the the placement of the second monitor. However, no image appears. I can move my mouse to where the second monitor should show it. But there is nothing.

Jbrooks92, did you ever solve this issue? I have the exact same situation with a new iMac and on older LG monitor...

Have you opened System Preferences - Displays and seen if the external display is "seen?" Please carefully read Apple's OS X: How to use multiple displays with your Mac in Mountain Lion and earlier - Apple Support

I'm not sure what you are doing wrong but you are, I'd recommend speaking to a Genius at an Apple Store that can solve the problem. Either that or you can call AppleCare, the call will not be free unless you have AppleCare but the Genius visit would be.

Thanks for input. However, I've tried two different mini display port to DVI adapters, two different DVI cables and two different HP monitors, all of which work. So it's got to be the LG monitor specifically. I don't know if there is a way to get the LG monitor to work. But it doesn't currently work.
