Magic Mouse will not reconnect after sleep

I'm using a late 2013 21.5" iMac, running Yosemite 10.10.3 Recently purchased (last month)

Frequently after My iMac wakes from sleeping, my wireless keyboard connects, but magic mouse does not. I always turn my mouse off when I put my computer to sleep. To i wake my computer I press a button on the keyboard and then flip the switch to turn on the mouse, type my log-in password, log-on and wait for my mouse to connect. Sometime it does, usually it does not. It is getting frustrating. The only way i can get it to reconnect is by doing a hard reset. This time upon resetting my computer and reconnecting my mouse, all the gesture options have disappeared (including scrolling) and are not available in the system preferences as an option anymore.

I just bought this computer two weeks ago and my frustration level is growing. Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is no need to turn your mouse off. Put the computer to sleep when you are finished and that is all. Try an SMC reset (see the link here) and from then onwards leave the mouse alone.

And here is a link to general problems.

I was told to manually shut off the mouse to save batteries by the sales associate, it's good to know i don't have to worry about that. I tried the support pages a little bit. I did the reset thing and it has not worked. My mouse will still not scroll. Now I have I have realized that my keyboard is not working correctly. The function keys do not work and when i press the volume down button it moves open windows off to the side to view the desktop. This is getting increasingly annoying. Is it possibly I have a virus on this computer already or something?

Be re-assured, you don't have a virus. It is a matter of setting up the mouse correctly. Where did you buy the iMac from?

Because I do not have Yosemite (or 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9, for that matter) I am not able to help you a great deal. My OS is Snow Leopard, long before yours. If you bought it from a store, it is not unreasonable for you to expect they will look at it after so short a time since purchase. I think all that is needed is for someone to re-set the mouse as if it was being done from scratch.
