Iphoto closes immediately after opening

Hello,

I have a Macbook Pro

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

All softwares have been recently updated.

Since 3 days, when I click on Iphoto, the software opens, sometimes I can see the small icons with the photos and almost immediately the software stops working and the windows closes.

An other window pops up and says (In French) that the software suddenly stopped working.

Then I have 3 options: Ignore, retry, send report...

Any idea how to fix this problem?

I cannot access my photos anymore...

thanks for your help.

Hello! I also am having a similar problem but do not understand how you fixed it. I am very worried because I just spent 2 months building an ibook and

now my iphoto will not open. It tries but I get the same error message as you (in English but it's the same). Can you please tell me how to fix this? Thank you so much! Oh and I have restarted and rebooted the computer but to no avail.

Option 1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.

If that fails:

Option 2

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Regards

I tried this because the initial update would not open my old Library and I spent two hours on the phone. It was repaired and now, I am still having trouble. I did the Command+Option keys and it did this: It told me I needed to update and I got this when I tried. I backed up my computer last month, but I have not done it because of this. Nothing worked. Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
