How can I get my outgoing gmail back on line?

It depends on why it's offline...

Connection Doctor (Windows menu, Mail app) is a good place to start. That will help figure out where your problem lies.

If it's just a missing password, you can correct it through Preferences, Accounts, Outgoing Mail Server (in the Account Information tab).
