I brought iPhone 6 Plus eight months ago on contract for two years. It was very exciting before, but I want to get rid of it now because of over weight, doesn't fit in the pockets and cannot hold it in the hands for longer time when compared to iPhone 6. My phone is on contract and has apple care plus. So, if I sell this phone and buy iPhone 6, would the contract and apple care plus can be transferred?

AppleCare is for the specific device, so it won't be transferred to your new phone.
To sell your old phone you have to unlock it. Different providers have different rules and different costs for unlocking before the contract is finished. Contact your provider.
The contract will not transfer. Your contract is between you and your carrier Whether you sell or keep your device, your carrier will expect the terms of the contract to be fulfilled. To get out of it, you'd have to pay an early termination fee.
The carrier is also unlikely to unlock your iPhone until the terms of your contract are discharged. If you sell it and do not fulfill your contract, they are also likely to blacklist the phone.

You can do whatever you wish, it's your phone. But your contract with your carrier is completely independent of the device you use with them. You will still be under contract even if you sell the phone, until you fulfill the contract's terms.
And Apple has nothing at all to do with your carrier and your service contract with them.
What MB said. That's what I meant when I pointed out carriers have different rules and different costs. A contract is a contract and almost all carriers have a cost associated with breaking it.
Some carriers sometimes have advertised deals where they will pick up the cost of breaking your existing contract if you switch to them, so check around.
As has been said, Apple Care will go with the phone it was bought for.
You can have your Carrier transfer your service to the new iPhone to continue your contract.
You may need to buy the new iPhone before selling the old one so you get your service transferred to it.
You don't need to unlock it to sell it. Though its easier to sell an unlocked iPhone, its not necessary but you may want to clearly state what carrier its locked to when selling it.
