Does Logic Pro X have a Digital Performer type conductor track?

I'm considering buying LPX but am confused - does it have a conductor track or allow for multiple time signature changes and tempo changes within recordings?

Can one tap tempo, quantize the tap tempo regionally and set markers to delineate different sections? Just trying to figure out where the limitations are before buying and investing time in learning it.

Yes.. it's called the Tempo Track.... and is one of the various global tracks...

Apart from setting specific tempos at set points in time.. you can also create gradual changes in tempo over time...

However... it's not quite the same as DP's conductor track, for instance, you can't tap-tempo/conduct a playing track and record the taps in the conductor track.

I have at one time or another run into a display problem when using multiple time signatures. Example: The screen shows a region with data at bar 65, but the data it shows is not the data being played, The time signatures caused a display, dis-placement. That was in Logic 8 and early versions of 9, don't know if it's still there or not.

Are you sure?

How about:

  • Enable "Allow tempo change recording" (in the Recording Project Settings)
  • Assign the Key Command "Tap Tempo" (In the Key Command Window)
  • Enable "Manual Sync" (Playhead changes to external sync blue)

I don't say that it works great, but technically it is possible.

Hope that helps

Additional:

Tap Tempo was completely broken for a while.. in LPX 10.0.7 and 10.1

Apparently it was fixed in 10.1.1 although I still find it a little.... temperamental at times... 🙂

Also I believe you cannot record Tap Tempo in playback mode.. only in stop mode iirc..... (Not in front of my LPX setup so cannot test/confirm)
