Srambled Fusion Drive on iMac Retina 5k

Hi Everyone. I think i'm lost and need some help with my Fusion Drive.

I have new iMac Retin 5k with 3TB Fusion Drive and preinstalled Yosemite.

Things i did so far:

1. I was working on my iMac and had successfully deployed Bootcamp partition with Windows 7 (120gb). Everything went well, but after some time Win7 partition filled up so i decided to find a way to make it larger. Morale is 'don't change something that works' 😉

2. After some googling i've found that nothing but removing and reinstalling bootcamp worked in that matter.

3. I've backed up my Win7 partition with Clonezilla and than removed it with BA.

4. Started BA anew, made new partition (399gb), new installation USB flash drive than restarted to install with same BA.

5. Windows 7 installation started, found new and empty BOOTCAMP partition but couldn't install Win7 on it, formating it didn't help (later i've found that it was caused by my external HDD pluged in).

6. Restarted to OSX. Now the bad things start to happen.

7. In DU i clicked Erase on BOOTCAMP partition, it gave me an error and BOOTCAMP partiton dissapeared. It still showed on Disk view as unallocated space.

8. I thought that removing what left from bootcamp partition and expanding current CS to full size would enable BA partition splitting again.

9. I went along these steps http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/139157/restore-macintosh-hd-to-its-orig inal-partition-configuration

10. It didn't work. In last frantic tries i deleted whole cs, but it didn't fix to anew Fusion Drive.

So now I'm stuck with scrambled fusion drive and don't know what to do.

HALP! I wan't to restore Fusion Drive to original, unsliced state.

You have a large amount of Free Space on the your HDD (which is part of your Fusion drive setup).

The simplest solution is to use the following steps...

1. Back up OSX using Time Machine - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.

2. Boot into Internet Recovery - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support.

3. Erase your internal drive and restore from the TM backup in Step 1 - OS X Yosemite: Recover your entire system.

Please be aware that TM does not backup Bootcamp partitions.

If you want to be adventurous, terminal commands can also be used, but I would not recommend them, unless you really want to.

Jun 5, 2015 9:47 AM in response to Grzegorz Bobrowski

Here are the steps which should be executed in Recovery Console started via Internet Recovery - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support and Command+Opt+R (you must see a spinning globe). Based on diskutil list output, it looks like you are in Recovery Console.

1. Remove the current Macintosh HD - diskutil cs deleteVolume 8FDEBC56-0DCC-4A11-83A2-ACC38C44ABC0

2. Remove the current LV Group - diskutil cs delete 4D59CB69-60DE-49BB-8450-B573CD66DA1B

3. Erase SSD - diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ SSD disk0

4. Erase HDD - diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ HDD disk1

5. Recreate CS volume group - diskutil cs create OSX-MacintoshLVG disk0s2 disk1s2

6. Recreate CS volume - diskutil cs createVolume OSX-MacintoshLVG JHFS+ "Macintosh HD" 100%

Please post back if you see any errors with any commands.

Hi Loner ,

I think i have the problem as Grzegorz Bobrowski had in this thread.

I have iMac with a 3TB fusion drive, and i think i messed it up and lost 800 GB due to bootcamp.

I have no data (so no backup is needed) and i just want a one clean fusion drive.

Could you state the terminal commands which are specific to my case?

Here are the commands you've ask from Grzegorz Bobrowski

Hi Loner,

I encountered another issue.

When i try to install Yosemite from a disk on key (which worked several times before on this imac)

I get an error right when the installation begins:

"OS X could not be installed on your computer.

a problem occurred while resizing the core Storage physical volume structures

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again."

I did restart but the same error appeared

I have no clue what is wrong?
