Bootcamp graphics and sleep issues on Macbook Pro retina 13" 2015

Macbook Pro retina 13" 2015

Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit on Bootcamp partition.

I believe the Bootcamp drivers provided by Apple are half baked because I'm having issues that didn't exist on my MBA 2012

I have two issues

1. The graphics get corrupted right after logging in. The only way to correct is to re-size the UI Personalize>Display>resize desktop. The screen starts to look like an old TV with bad reception. I learned to navigate around and when I re-size to large or smaller and reboot, it works but every 2nd or 3rd reboot the graphics become corrupted and I need to re-size again (smaller or larger) and reboot and it works. Simply rebooting doesn't correct the issue. The weird thing is that there are no issues in Mac OS, which leads me to believe the graphics drivers or Bootcamp drivers Apple provides for Windows 8.1 are half baked - I never had issues with Windows 8.1 on my MBA 13" 2012.

2. When the MBr goes to sleep either by being left alone or closing the screen, it NEVER wakes up requiring a hard reboot by holding down the power button.

FWIW, I'm using the drivers provided by the BooCcamp application in MacOS and Windows 8.1 has been fully updated.

Any ideas from people who've dealt with this issue.

Well, This is the second time installing Windows 8.1 (upgrading from 8) because I already tried what you recommend 3 weeks ago and broke Windows. I am not wiping and reinstalling Windows 8, then upgrading to 8.1, it's a whole day process because of the stupid update system Microsoft uses.

The first time I installed Windows, the graphics were fine but there were two devices (PCI something and an chip set driver) that were unrecognized in the Windows device manager. I reran the Apple Bootcamp drivers and Windows recognized the devices but the graphics broke, to the point it was corrupted every time I booted the system.

The second time, I had the same issue with the unrecognized devices and I ran the Apple chip-set update only and I now I have a somewhat working version of Windows. The only difference is the graphics gets corrupted every two-three boots instead of being corrupted every boot.

I tried updating the Intel Graphics drivers but that didn't help so I reverted back to the Apple ones.

FWIW, I haven't let windows install any new drivers, I'm an IT guy so I'd recognize that in the Windows update list.

Preventing Windows from updating drivers is dangerous because drivers get updated regularly. Apple's drivers are no exception, everything has bugs and needs updates, which would explain why Windows isn't running properly...

I would LOVE that but I only have Windows 8 disks and activation codes. Would that work if I get Windows 8.1 media?

FWIW, I followed your advice and re-downloaded the most recent Bootcamp drivers in Mac OS and installed them again. Give me a couple days and I'll report in on success or failure. I doubt it will make a difference but third time's a charm? 😀 LOL

Update: That didn't work. I had to use system restore to undo.

System didn't wake from sleep which required a hard reboot and scanning the SSD on reboot to correct errors and then booting into corrupted graphics. I'm not enjoying having to scan my hard drive every time I use windows and it goes to sleep. I just changed the power settings to never let the system sleep so I don't have worry about corrupting my data.

I called Apple's tech support and they were no help. They redirect me to Microsoft even though this is an Apple Hardware issue. MS was like this is an Apple computer with Apple drivers.

Can someone who owns a MBP retina 2015 who's installed Windows 8.1 and has none of the issues please let me know what you did? Maybe we can compare drivers.
