Put image in text box in Pages 5?

One of the things I loved about Pages '09 is how easy it is to take a text box, insert an image and a caption, and then have them stay together, stay put, and behave (unlike in some other word processors which shall remain nameless). This has become essential to my workflow for laying out a manuscript.

This seems to be no longer possible in Pages 5. No matter what I do it will not let me insert an image into a text box. Am I missing something? Is there any way to do this? Puttling the caption into a text box and grouping the box with the image is not an adequate replacement; all manner of alignment issues seem to crop up when doing it that way.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm running Pages 5.5.3 under Yosemite, in case that matters.

Well, in Pages v5, you certainly can fill a Text box with an image from the Format Styles panel. Unfortunately, there is no practical means of adding and controlling placement of captioned text in the same Text box. It has been pointed out before here that you can juxtapose and group a smaller caption Text box below the main image bearing Text box. You have shared your thoughts on that solution.

Pages '09 v4.3 still works on Yosemite, and has a bonus 100+ additional features over any release of Pages v5. Use that. Or, use Word in Office for Mac 2011. The latter allows you to drop an image, position it, and then right-click to bring up a caption interface. When satisfied, it will place a caption directly below your image. No Text boxes needed. Right tool for the job.

Aha! I had not considered the "image fill" approach (the way I always did it in Pages '09 was to paste the image into the text box from the clipboard. This is what does not work any more, at least on either of my desktops or my laptop).

When I attempted to group text boxes and images before, it was with free floating images. The method you describe works much better. Thanks!
