Heating and effect to flash of iphone

I was using my iphone 6 plus today for recording video in the sunny wheather.I realized at that moment there was warning sign on the left side of screen as lightning but phone was still working.When I touched to the sign on the left,I dont remember exactly but it was like " flash disabled for heat " or wait until cool down for flash" And I stopped using the phone and it turned to normal after 5-10 minutes later.There was NO general warning on the main screen for overheating.

Do you think any damage or something happened to my phone.Actually There is no problem right now.Was this warning only protection measure from overheating ?
