Took some pics w/ my DSLR...went to import them and none of them show up in the Import tab in Photos. They are however visible on the SD card when browsed to manually in Finder. Anyone have an idea why they're not showing in Photos? They're just a standard .jpg format and worked fine with iphoto...

You state that you have OS X 10.8.2 and Photos which is not possible - you talk about the "import tab" and there is none
How are you mounting the card? What version of iPhoto do they work fine in?
How are you accessing the SD card?

If you plug the camera into your Mac with the Photos app open, do you see the Import button appear on the toolbar (or if you have the Sidebar visible, do you see "Import" appear there)? If not, the camera isn't being recognized as a media source. This might be due to some setting in the camera or interference from some app provided by the camera manufacturer.
Check the camera or its manual for any setting that involves configuring its transfer port -- usually it is USB, but without knowing the make & model of the camera there is no way for us to know what it uses or anything more specific about its settings, apps, or whatever.
Well the Apple supplied tagline seems to be out of date...I have 10.10.3. As for no import tab, I'm not sure what you would call this:
Anyways I solved my own problem. For future reference, the recent images were indeed in the Import tab. Photos does not not maintain folder structure from the SD card in the Import tab, and files are sorted by date modified and file type. So basically there are a bunch of images followed by a bunch of videos. I didn't realize that the images I had just taken would be followed by previously shot videos, so I was looking at the bottom and top of the file list for my images, as one would intuitively expect, rather than in the middle.
