In my Documents-iTunes file the songs are listed by the first character: i.e. The or A. In my play page they are listed by the first 'main' word: i.e. a Man is listed under M. Why is this and can I make it consistent?

iTunes has a scheme for automatically dropping the leading articles a, an & the from the sort values for fields such as artist, album, name etc. Finder doesn't work the same way. In general I'd recommend that you let iTunes do its thing, but if a particular auto sort field doesn't place an item where you want it you can enter a sort value to make it go where you want it. For the example above you would put A Man Loves a Woman into the sort name to sort it under A instead of M.
