find my ipod

Hi,

Earlier in the week my sons iPod was taken from his school (along with several of the schools iPods)

So I logged into iCloud to locate the iPod.

Firstly, it is a WiFi only iPod, so I assume it can only be located if online??

Second, when I use the find my ipod function, my other device that is linked, that I have in front of me, also comes up as being offline.

Have checked all the settings on my iPad, make sure it is online and start the find my iPad/Pod search, and still comes up saying both devices are offline.

Also, I'd like to get the serial number for the iPod to give to the Police, however in iCloud, it has all bar the last 5 digits/letters hidden, how do I get my serial without the iPod?

Thanks

lost/stolen

No app on the iOS device is required.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.

- You can also wipe/erase the iOS device and have the device play a sound via iCloud.

iCloud: Erase your device

iCloud: Use Lost Mode

- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.

- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the device and report to police and carrier if iPhone or cellular iPad

- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the erase (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 or later on the device. With iOS 7 or later, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

Thanks...that helps the first part as we only had all the location services on but no app unfortunately.

Will the wipe function still work if I dont have the app? I have clicked the lost function and added my mobile number to call if found, although knowing it has been stolen I dont expect to see it again.

Pretty sure the iPod is IOS 8.3 (which is what the iPad is)

Credit card details already removed.

In regard to the point about the serial number, all the stuff there seems to point to needing my device being connected to my PC for me to find out the serial number (as I dont believe my son has kept anything that will help)

In iTunes under manage my devices it appears my only option is to remove it, doesnt appear I can do anything else.

Sorry if I am missing something blatantly obvious.

- I said NO app is required. Yo just have to had had FindMyiPod turned on in Settings>iCloud.

- The wipe function will only work if the iPod connects to the internet. That is not really likely since it will not be near any network to which it previously connected to.

- Did you try go to your Support Profile to look for the serial number as the was included in this link:

- iOS: How to find the serial number, IMEI, MEID, CDN, and ICCID number

Here is direct link to your profile. If the iPod was registered it is in your profile.
