Hello,
I have installed office 2016 for mac and autocad 2015, after that I uninstalled the previously installed 2011 office, but now all the .doc and .xls files have blank Icons, which makes very difficult to visualize them. Also my dwg autocad files have blank icons too, Wasn't the icon attribution supposed to be automatic?
Note: .docx and .xlsx have regular icons as shown in the picture below.
Please Help me.

How can I attribute an Icon to all .doc files, not only one?
Please does someone know how to change those icons automatically? I have uninstalled e installed the apps several times with no results
Try copying these commands into Terminal.app:
cd /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/
cd Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/
./lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
cd
They shouldn't produce any output but will rebuild the 'launch services' database that associates icons with applications and documents. The rebuild process may take a minute or two, don't interrupt it or you will need to start from scratch.

Man I tried all the commands you said, copied them all at once and them each line separately and nothing change. Am I doing something wrong?
My bad, I should have said that you need to logout or restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.
If it hasn't worked, don't panic, it just means I guessed wrong.
Next guess: try using Disk Utility to repair your permissions.

Select a file, press command-i, on the info panel choose the correct app for the file,check the box to do this for all files of this type.
I will try to restart and if it doesn't work, then the disk utility. Soon I will get you a feedback.
I have already tried that, changed .docs files and hit "change all" to open with pages, nothing happen, then preview, nothing happen, and then changed back to microsoft word, to see if the icons show up again, but no matter what app I choose to open the .doc or .xls files, they keep blank icons.

I have tried the commands on the terminal again, restarted, tried the Disk utility "Repair Disk Permission"and "Verify Disk", restarted, nothing changed...

Should I try to reinstall apps again after that?
Hmm... Try deleting this file:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store
then reboot. To do this use
Finder > Go to Folder ...
to go to /Library/Caches/ and then drag com.apple.iconservices.store to the Trash and reboot. You will need to authenticate with a password.

Tried this too.No results. What the ****! I though this was an easy fiz.
Funny thing is, when I choose icon view the icons show up. But in the info, command+i there is no icon, it is blank too
I've had a similar problem with icons and Office 2016 for Mac. I have posted my solution on Microsoft Communities. Hope it helps...
Ok, I have managed to fix the problem.
What did not work for me (but may work for others):
- Rebuilding the launch services database / clearing icon cache
- Repairing disk permissions (using disk utilities)
- Repairing disk (using disk utilities)
- Reinstall office
This got it even worse, the icons of all other office applications broke as wellWhat did work for me:
- Download LiteIcon and open it
- Download an icon, such as this office icon or any other png file. In the end it doesn't matter.
- Within LiteIcon, under system icons click "Others"
- Drag the icon you have downloaded in step 2 onto the Document icon
- Click Apply Changes
- The program will close and you will be signed out, sign in again and all office icons should work as normal. Funny thing is, it does not use the icon I assigned to it in step 4. Instead it just uses the correct office icons. I assume LiteIcon just somehow fixes the icon cache on my mac.

My problem was fixed when I reinstalled the OS X Yosemite, at the power on, holding command+R.
I did`t know it worked like that, the reinstall does't erase any of your data, my notebook is exactly how it was before, but with the icons bug fixed, also it fixed a problem that I was having with the dictation, it was only working in the english language, when I select portuguese, I heard the beep, but didn't write anything. Now everything works just great! I think the icons bug and the dictation stop working when I used Clean My Mac 3 to uninstall office 2011 and erase other languages.
DON`T USE CLEAN MY MAC 3!
Good to hear your problem is resolved. And now you say it, I also used Clean My Mac (2) to remove Office 2011. There seems to be the problem... 👿
