Q: My iPad Air 2 with cellular would allow me to text anyone, regardless of their operating system, but now it only will do iMessage. How do I get back to texting anyone?

my iPad 2 could text androids or ios, but now only will text iMessage. my phone number is hooked up to both, tried on just wifi or just cellular. I really liked that ability for when my phone died or toddler is using it i could text and call anyone from iPad. It stopped allowing that just a few weeks ago...

iPad 2, iOS 8.3, Verizon network

    Methinks the "electrical engineer" doesn't understand the difference between cellular data and cellular voice. Admittedly, lots of people don't.

    Nope not paired to iphone and he has a Samsung. If you weren't such a know it all I'd give you my iPad number and let you call me me. Even though I've never tried that. Have a great day.

    IF you are making phone calls from your iPad, why don't you share how you are doing it. I would love to be able to make calls from my iPad. I'm sure many people would like to be able to the same.

     

    Are you using an app like Skype? Some other texting/calling app?

    Although your iPad has a "phone number", it is for billing purposes only. It is not actually possible to call it or make calls from it.
