Q: will a discontinued iPhone still be able to download old versions of an app from itunes?

I am new to the apple ecosystem and I am thinking of buying an iPhone 4S since it got cheap,

But since tomorrow is WWDC and I heard that new iOS 9 probably wont be supporting 4S, will an old version of app or games developed for 4S be available to download through iTunes?

If version 2.0 of an app is not supported, will itunes show version 1.0 to download?

Hope iOS 9 will be supporting 4S.

That is up to individual app developers. If they choose to support older versions and downloads, then yes. But a developer is not required to do that by any terms of the App Store from Apple.

It depends on whether or not the application's developer allows the old version to remain available. If so, the process would be to download the current version to a computer or compatible iOS device, click here, and follow the instructions.

iPhones drop off the radar when the iOS is beyond their capability

App vendors update their Apps to support the latest level of iOS and to some degree the Technical capability of the hardware

Each App will indicate the iOS level requirements and minimum device which will get more stringent but there will only ever be one level of the App available

So yes once an iPhone can no longer support the latest App update ,that is it

At this point there is no such offering as iOS9

and you obviously missed this when you agreed to the terms of use on joining this Community
