I upgraded iWork and now my old files do not open and I do not know how to save to the new version.

Your old files were probably created with iWork '08. You may still have that version on your machine. It would be in the iWork '08 folder in the Applications folder. You could export it as an excel file or a CSV file and open that in Numbers 3. Things might get a little scrambled.
You could dounload a 30 day trial of iWorks '09 and convert all your files in it. Worked fine for me.
