How can I retrieve photos from my 4.2.1 iPod touch 2nd gen

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch running iOS 4.1.2 and I would like to retrieve the photos from it. iPhoto/Photos/Image Capture do not find those pictures, I cannot upload the pictures to the internet with or without apps, I cannot download any image sharing applications. It seems like the only way to save my only copy of these photos is to email them 5 at a time. I am looking for an easier solution.
