After reviewing your post, it sounds like there is intermittent trouble with the video on the Mac. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Unfortunately, none of those troubleshoots changed anything. I'm guessing I'll have to take it in for service once I'm close to an Apple Store, which won't be for a couple of weeks.
If there are any other solutions anyone knows of, I'd appreciate the info.
