Q: iMessage not syncing/providing continuity between iPhone and MacBook Pro

I am getting increasingly frustrated with finding a solution to fix the sync of messages between my iPhone and MacBook.

 

My iMessages only show up/sync to my Messages app on my MacBook Pro when it is open and connected. Usually when i would open my MacBook, it would automatically sync all the messages and conversation threads as I had used on my iPhone.

 

I have logged out of iCloud and iMessage on both devices, and restarted, logging in again. This has not worked.

 

Does anyone have a fix for this? I just want continually between the two devices, and am extremely confused after searching and trying a lot of solutions that just are not working.

    Ralph is correct. I learned recently that iMessages will NEVER sync to a device that is offline for more than 2-3 days. Yes, this is ridiculous and unlike every other chat platform.

     

    I noticed this problem when I went and traveled for 3 months this summer with my iPhone. When I returned home and booted up my iPad and Macbook Pro, NONE of the iMessages I sent or received over the summer with my iPhone synced to the secondary devices.

     

    I was incredulous that (so I thought) iMessage was still having sync issues, so I emailed a VP at Apple and got a call back from their executive team. They explained that yes, iMessages are only available for "about 2 days" if a device is not online at the instant the message is sent or received. If the device comes back online during that 2 day window, the iMessages will sync. If it remains offline, the messages will never sync.

     

    Strange, but true.

    Hi,

     

    Update.

     

    Later in 2015 I went to France taking just my iPhone and iPad.

    iMessages were syncing between those two.

     

    The trip was for 7 days and the Mac did update all the iMessages when I turned it On.

    I have seen Posts on these Discussions that have listed 9 and 11 days as well.

     

    The iPhone Number seems to be the fasted to become "Not Registered with iMessages" if the iPhone happens to be out of Carrier range, not have a WiFi option if that happens or in a situation where it cannot be recharged for a period.

     

    Initially the Number will become "not registered" by the Apple ID will still work and other devices will get the sync "copies" as it were.

    However it seems that at about 5 days to a week the link to the Apple ID is lost.

    Only devices that are using the Apple ID and having iMessages addressed to that ID will get any iMessages.

    Those sent to the iPhone Number are "Lost" forever.
