Why does QT 7 now crash when trying to access Flip4Mac? A very recent problem.
It may be a recent problem but your system info is not that recent. Are you still running Mac OS X 10.3.x? What version of Flip4Mac do you have installed? You can check this in the System Preferences. While you are at it, what QuickTime version?

Jun 7, 2015 8:40 PM in response to Raymond Rileyby Douglas Hintzman,I am running Quicktime Player Pro 7.6.6, but the information window also says 7.7.3.
My system is 10.10.3. I have a late 2012 Mac Mini.
Clicking on the Flip4Mac icon in System Preferences told me that Flip4Mac was up to date. However, I do not know the version humber because I uninstalled Flip4Mac, thinking I might want to re-install it. Have not done that yet.
None of my old .mov files that were converted from MWV would play, although I could play them in Flip Player. I tried opening one in the new Quicktime Player, and after about an hour trying to convert the file, that app also crashed.

Thanks for the update. I know it seems a little confusing that QuickTime Player 7has a different version than QuickTime the framework.

Flip4Mac has the simple player utility and also the versions that can do conversion. Currently the Pro version is required to convert media. Will you be reinstalling the Flip4Mac Player Pro or Flip4Mac Player?

It would be helpful to look under the hood at these files. While they are in .mov format that doesn't tell us what codecs are in use. Have you tried opening the files in VLC? If it opens to to Window > Media Information...Codecs and see what you find.

Jun 8, 2015 4:31 PM in response to Raymond Rileyby Douglas Hintzman,VLC won't open them, because it does not support WMV3, and "unfortunately, there is no way for you to fix this."
I gather from what you have told me that when my Flip4Mac was updated, which happened automatically, Telestream "updated" it by removing functionality -- with no warning of any kind. So now if I want to watch my old movies as I used to, in Quicktime, I will have to buy Flip4Mac Pro. Either that, or somehow get the old version back.

Where is the source of this quoted text? True or false it is not something I said.

I don't understand why you are interpreting this from my post. I don't know what Flip4Mac version you had and I don't know what process you undertook to convert or transcode files to .mov format. There must have been some options for what codecs you wanted to choose.

If you converted files to .mov with non-proprietary codecs like MPEG-4, H.264 and AAC, you would no longer need Flip4Mac to view these movies. They should be able to be viewed in QuickTime X or QuickTime 7. So I'm returning to my earlier question of what codecs are found in these .mov files you once were able to view.

Jun 8, 2015 10:11 PM in response to Raymond Rileyby Douglas Hintzman,The quote is from a window that VLC opens when I try to play one of the problem videos. It says it does not support WMV3 and "there is no way for you to fix this."
My only difficulty with Quicktime (and VLC) seems to be in playing movies that were originally converted from MWV format to .mov, either by saving the movie directly from Quicktime or by using a converter such as SmartConverter. I was not aware that I had any options on what codecs to choose. The movies used to play, but when I try to play one now, Quicktime crashes, saying "QuickTime Player 7 quit unexpectedly while using the Flip4Mac WMA Import plug-in."
Anyway, I have now switched from Quicktime to Flip Player, and everything seems to work.
Thank you for your help.
