Please help, this is so annoying! What is the solution?

Try re-installing the app, this seems to work well with Office for Mac when it's is having issues. You can also post on the Office for Mac Product Forums, this is where most of the gurus hang out.

Thanks for your response.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, but now error message appears the moment I open word doc- no longer just when I try to save.

Help!

Please post an EtreCheck report of your computer and we can look for obvious issues. Also, what version of MS Office for Mac is installed??

The only major item I see is your MacBook Pro (did you realize this is an iMac forum???) is dangerously low on available storage with only

18.33 GB free

My recommendation is to get an external HD, and move large libraries such as your iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto libraries onto the EHD.

Unknown but relocating the large libraries should be the #1 priority, otherwise you may not have available space to even startup the computer.

Just had a similar experience with a new OS install and a new install of Office 11. Word kept crashing at open. Worked for two days removing preferences, and such, finally uninstalling Office (by hand...very tedious) and reinstalling. No joy. Still crashed at start. Ready to wipe the entire hard drive again, but suspected a font issue, so went to the font folder to look things over (especially interested in the fonts MS might have installed) when I discovered a "Fonts Disabled" folder in the System Library. As I said, this was a new install of the operating system, so I had no idea why there would be disabled fonts. Found some Arial (mostly variations of Bold), Brush Script, WingDings. Checked the Font folder and found no duplicates of these, so copied them back into the System Library Font folder. That seems to have fixed my problem. Have restarted Word numerous times and it opens very quickly and...every time!
