Having issues using apple pay using apple watch at starbucks.

Both credit cards have been verified and each says READY, but the Starbucks reader will not connect to my watch. Do I have a setting or settings - set wrong?

OK - looks like i have a misunderstanding of how to pay with Apple Watch at Starbucks. I have two cards verified and saved in passbook. I double click the side button and when the desired card appears I hold up to scanner waiting. If i understand your response - I can only use my apple watch at starbucks using starbucks card and app? am i miss-using the term apple pay?

Yes, kind of. To use Apple Pay on your watch, you double tap the button below the digital crown and it brings Apple Pay. Apple Pay allows you to pay with a credit card at merchants like Panera, Walgreens, Trader Joe's.

What you're talking about is Passbook. Passbook and Apple Pay are connected in that you add your credit card for Apple Pay through Passbook. You can also add other types of cards to Passbook that aren't credit cards. The Starbucks card is one.

The way I have my Starbucks card set up is that I have a "favorite" store set up in the App. This means that, when I'm near my regular Starbucks, Passbook appears in my notifications. But you could still go directly through the app if you wanted. Tap the your Starbucks card. You should see the barcode on a white background. Tap it. The background becomes black and the entire barcode is visible on the watch face. Hold it up to the scanner.

Unless you see a scanner with a wifi icon ( usually sideways ) or an Apple logo/icon the merchant doesn't have the necessary scanner to work with Apple Pay. If you have a Starbucks app with a card registered to it and if you have location services turned on for the app as well as Passbook the Starbucks Passbook scan code will pop up when you get to a store. I don't have one set up as a "favorite" store but it pops up anytime I'm at one - on the watch.

If you don't have a credit card set up with the Satrbucks app I don't believe the app will get inserted into Passbook. From what I saw today at their conference loyalty cards will become part of Apple Pay but they still need to have the correct equipment for you to be able to use it.
