Remove email account but keep emails

Hi,

I need to amend some settings for an email account in Mail, but would prefer to remove the account and create a new one so I'm starting fresh. However, I DO NOT want to lose any previous emails to date associated with the account when I remove it.

So, am I OK to go into preferences and remove the account completely without losing all emails for that account?

Thanks,

Neil.

If you remove the account, you will lose all of the emails that are in the Inbox for that account. What you need to do is first create a new mailbox. Move all of the messages from the account you wish to delete into the new mailbox. You should do the same for the Sent messages in that account. Once you have moved all of your messages into the new mailboxes, you can go ahead and delete the account. Before deleting the account, check both the Inbox and Sent mailboxes to be sure they are empty.

I hope this helps.
